This letter to Congress calls for them to:

• Pass the Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act to address the mental-well-being of our frontline providers;
• Pass the Future Advancement of Academic Nursing Act (S.246/H.R. 851) that in part provides much needed funding for increasing faculty to improve the education of nurses; and
• Work with key stakeholders to change current payment structures to finally recognize nurses as a value instead of 'overhead'.

The simple truth is nurses do not feel valued. Between the pandemic, enduring workplace violence, forced mandatory overtime, sunsetting of workplace protections and more, can we blame them? It is no wonder nurses increasingly work for staffing agencies who can provide better wages or quit the profession entirely.
Nurses, patients, and communities alike have an interest in calling on Congress to do something. These three actions would help alleviate the current and future staffing issues on multiple fronts while positively impacting patient outcomes and satisfaction. It is up to you to make your voice heard!
